Trove is a macOS app that helps you find and tidy your files. It is private by default: your files, their contents, and everything Trove learns about them stay on your Mac. Trove never uploads your files or their contents to us or anyone else.

Trove reads files inside the folders you explicitly choose to watch (for example Downloads or Desktop) in order to make them searchable and to suggest how to organize them. To do this, Trove:
All of this happens locally on your Mac. The index and all derived data are stored on your computer under ~/Library/Application Support/ai.nyrai.Trove/. We never receive a copy.
Trove does not collect, transmit, sell, or share: your files or their contents, your search queries, your file or folder names, your usage activity, advertising identifiers, location, contacts, or any personally identifying information. Trove contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software.
To function as paid software that stays up to date, Trove makes a small number of outbound requests. None of them include your files, file contents, or search activity:
When you enter a license key, Trove sends that key and the product identifier to our payment provider, Gumroad, to confirm it is valid. The result is cached locally so Trove keeps working offline. See Gumroad’s privacy policy at gumroad.com/privacy.
Trove periodically checks a secure update feed (hosted on Cloudflare) to see whether a newer version is available. This requests only the current version information and downloads an update when you choose to install it.
On launch, Trove may fetch a small configuration file that lets us adjust default settings or disable a feature if a problem is discovered. It contains no personal data and sends none.
macOS will ask your permission before Trove can access protected folders such as Downloads, Desktop and Documents. Trove requests access only to the folders you choose to watch, and only to read and organize the files within them. It never requests Full Disk Access, and it excludes system, library and application locations entirely. You can add or remove watched folders at any time in Settings.
Because your data never leaves your device, it is protected by the security of your Mac and your macOS user account. Trove moves files to the Trash rather than deleting them, and keeps a local, reversible record of changes so you can undo them. Uninstalling Trove and deleting its Application Support folder removes everything Trove created.
Trove is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because we do not collect personal information at all.
Trove processes your data locally on your own device wherever you are located. Because we do not collect or store your personal data, there is no cross-border transfer of it by us.
If we update this policy, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version on this page. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
